For your convenience, our most common customer questions are answered right here.
Q: I am out of shape. Do I need to be in better physical condition before I start? .
A: Not at all. Many of our students join the school to help them get into shape. It is an excellent strength training, coordination, and cardio workout – all while you don’t realize you are exercising. What better way to get into shape than having FUN while you do it?!
Q: I’ve never had any martial arts experience. How will I fit in? .
A: Every week new students join our school. You won’t be alone as the only new person. The senior students in the class will help you and explain how our classes work. You will never be left on your own. Our students are very friendly and helpful.
Q: Will I get hurt? .
A: The chances of you getting hurt are very unlikely. In any physical activity there are chances that accidents may happen, but the likelihood of getting hurt while training in the martial arts is very low. We make sure all students understand the drill and make necessary corrections as the class progresses. You will never be required to do anything that causes you pain. Even when students injure themselves outside of class, they are expected to train at THEIR capacity. We train in a very safe manner. You are less likely to get hurt in here than you do playing other popular sports, like football, soccer, or basketball.
Q: How old do you have to be to train at Synergistic Martial Arts? .
A: The age for the Little Leaders program starts at age five and goes to age twelve. To train in the adult martial arts classes you must be thirteen, twelve year old children that have trained in Little Leaders will be slowly introduced into the adult program.
Q: What is Synergy?
A: Synergy means that the whole is greater than the sum of it’s parts. Essentially: 1+1=3. At Synergistic Martial Arts training is offered in several disciplines and these all compliment each other to make each one more effective. This creates the Synergistic effect.
Q: Are you an MMA school? .
A: Yes and no. We are a mixed martial art school in the aspect that you will have the opportunity to train in several different disciplines such as empty hand combat, kicking systems, ground fighting, and weapons training. Our focus is street survival. We do not train with an emphasis on competition ring/cage fighting (such as the UFC). If that is something you are very interested in, we are affiliated with several schools that specialize in it and will be happy to suggest schools that may better meet your needs. Come on in and we can talk about your goals.
Q: Am I required to wear a uniform? .
A: Our school uniform is a T-shirt and black pants or black shorts. T-shirts can be purchased from Sifu. Until your uniform arrives, comfortable workout attire is acceptable.
Q: Do you participate in tournaments? .
A: Our classes focus on the real world, street application of the martial arts. Tournaments are more for show, with specific rules, referees, points & trophies. When you train for REALITY, there are no rules and no points and your trophy is that you get to go home, not the hospital.
Q: How do I get started? .
A: You can contact us to set up an appointment or you can just come to the school at 554 South First Street Fulton NY. No money is required up front. All we ask is that you have a good attitude and a willingness to learn.
